Mist

Description

Maneri became known as a unique performer and creator on the viola, forging fascinating collaborations with improvisers from all backgrounds. Over the past seven years, Maneri has focused on a quartet to present his music. The group includes instrumentalists with whom Maneri has played for decades, notably drummer Randy Peterson, bassist John Hébert, and pianist Lucian Ban. As the identity of the quartet has solidified, Maneri has relied on the voices of his musicians to enrich his work. Lucian Ban's voice as a composer has also been integrated, with the pianist's pieces making up half of the tracks on the album Mist. The music of Mist uses elements from the two previous albums to create a kind of resolution, leading from the haze of Dust and Ash to a sense of calm imbued with hope on Mist. The recording was made at Tedesco Studios in New Jersey on April 23, 2025.
