Through evocative and emotionally rich music, Goodbye, Hotel Arkada, the new album by American harpist and composer Mary Lattimore, speaks not only of her beloved namesake—a hotel in Croatia undergoing renovation—but also of a shared universal loss. The artist offers six sprawling pieces shaped by change, celebrating and mourning the tragedy and beauty of the ephemeral, everything that is experienced and lost over time. Documented and edited during sessions conducted over a two-year period, the content remains rooted in improvisation while asserting itself as the most refined and robust work in a discography that spans a decade. We see her communing with friends, contemporaries, and long-time influences, going full throttle but slowing the pace to nourish the songs in new ways.
