Dark Star

Description

After fifteen years traveling the world with La Femme, the band he co-founded (multiple gold records, a Victoire de la Musique award, +600M streams, +400k albums sold) and leading to the biggest stages in France and internationally (Accor Hotel Arena, Zéniths, Glastonbury, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza Chicago, Osheaga Montreal...), Marlon is now returning solo with a first album that reconnects him with his early passions. It features his taste for unexpected crossovers and his singular style: a blend of rockabilly, punk, cold wave, and psychedelic psychobilly. The tracks, in French as well as English, are built on sixties guitars, an "orgy of eighties synths," powerful drum machines, analog delays, and a deliberately raw energy. His influences run throughout the album: Velvet Underground, The Stranglers, Motorhead, The Cure, The Stray Cats, JJ Cale, the Nuggets compilations, as well as Francophone figures like Gainsbourg, Les Rita Mitsouko, Métal Urbain, Plastic Bertrand, Marc Charlan. The result: a fast, nervy record (tempos at 240 bpm), sometimes radical, conceived "for those with blood on their hearts and a desire to fight." Co-produced with Renaud Letang (Feist, Manu Chao, Peaches) at the legendary Ferber studio, this album marks a true return to roots for Marlon and forcefully announces the return of rock in the current musical landscape.
