Mark Knopfler is back with ‘One Deep River’, an album where modern poetry resonates with sharp guitar melodies to create an uninterrupted flow of classics in the making.
The album title refers to the River Tyne, which flows through Newcastle, Mark Knopfler’s hometown, signifying that he draws on a lifetime of influences from across genres, including blues, folk, rock and beyond. One Deep River was produced by Mark Knopfler and his long-time collaborator Guy Fletcher and recorded at his British Grove Studios in London.
The band features Mark Knopfler on guitars, Jim Cox and Guy Fletcher on keyboards, Glenn Worf on bass, Ian Thomas on drums, Danny Cummings on percussion, Richard Bennett on guitar, and newcomer Greg Leisz on pedal and lap steel; Mike McGoldrick plays whistle and uilleann pipes, and John McCusker plays fiddle, while the Topolski sisters, Emma and Tamsin, provide backing vocals.
