Volume VII of the complete organ works of Bach, recorded since 2015 by Marie-Ange Leurent and Eric Lebrun, offers us a virtuosic, colorful, and festive program: the five Toccatas and Fugues, the Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, the Pastorale, the Canzone, a few isolated pieces, as well as the Eight Little Preludes and Fugues attributed to the cantor or his school. The influence of Italian music is evident in a large part of this new release. The magnificent instrument of Saint-Cyprien has been chosen to best showcase this demanding repertoire, with both a touch quality akin to that of the harpsichord and a sound material of astonishing flexibility that can be sculpted at will. This mythical organ, on which André Isoir recorded, among other works, The Art of Fugue, is, like Bach's work, a brilliant link between the art of Northern musicians and Mediterranean light.
