Description

Two years after "Comme les grands," Marguerite Thiam unveils "PIERROT." A new EP born from the collaboration between Marguerite and Nathan, her brother who is always in her musical vicinity, and the artistic director Bastien Dorémus (Christine & the Queens, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Juliette Armanet…). An alchemy that blends influences from rap and electro, giving rise to 4 powerful tracks with varied sounds and themes (toxic masculinity, the complexity of family relationships, disillusionment, excess...). This new EP resonates as a manifesto of the transition to adulthood: "suddenly, what was cool about me became a setback and immaturity. My boldness turned into insolence, my ambition a threat, and my naivety a foolishness. It is in this violent awakening that the clown was born," explains Marguerite. Why the clown? Because it does not choose between laughter and doubt, it allows sadness, fragility, and joy to coexist, and it retains something of childhood. And then there’s this: being a woman in the music industry today, facing an infinite number of contradictory expectations. Being desirable but not overly sexualized, strong but not arrogant, sensitive but not fragile. The clown allows one to avoid choosing, to subvert the codes. To hide behind the mask while being sincere in the approach and in the music, and elusive at the same time. To play like a child, even if through this EP, Marguerite Thiam has all the makings of a great artist.
