'Sun Explosion', a cult album by Manu Dibango!For the album 'Sun Explosion', we are in Paris in 1978. Six years after his breakthrough on the international scene with the track 'Soul Makossa', Manu Dibango follows up successes after composing the original music for several films. The album Sun Explosion offers long tracks, spanning a variety of styles from the nonchalant reggae-jazz of the opening track 'Anty', to the more traditional afro-funk-jazz of 'Matumba' on side A. Keeping in mind that 1978 was the year of disco, it is now time to flip the record to discover side B and listen to the sounds of the era make their way through the epic-funky strings of 'Motapo' or in the vibrant brass and funky xylophone of the eponymous track, 'Sun Explosion'.
