With her new studio album, Malia presents the story of a life filled with pieces of her youth and important moments in her life. One Grass Skirt To London is a musical journey of more than 8,000 km, from Malawi to London, where the singer emigrated as a teenager, and a sentimental journey of 14 songs filled with memories. Most of the tracks are taken from film soundtracks such as 'Midnight Cowboy', 'Top Gun', 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' or 'Fame'; important pieces for Malia that shaped her identity and helped her flourish as an artist. As since the album Black Orchid, Malia was accompanied by Alexandre Saada (piano), Jean Daniel Botta (bass) and Laurent Sériès (drums) for the instrumental part; her core trio who once again accompanied her in composing this album, and who make One Grass Skirt To London one of her most personal projects. Almost all the covers come from film soundtracks, from 'Everybody's Talkin'' from Midnight Cowboy to 'Take My Breath Away' from Top Gun, from 'Pure Imagination' from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to 'Here on My Own' from Fame. Each of these songs has the unique ability to recreate, through the music and the images it evokes, an emotion that has shaped Malia's own identity. It helped her overcome life's challenges and develop as an artist. It is therefore no surprise that in Malia's voice, sometimes even in the same song, one hears the little girl, the teenager, the woman, but also, as through a fascinating effect of vocal transmigration, the soul of the one who is no longer there. The uncompromising freedom she acquired over the course of her career with several albums of very different, but often clear, directions, predestined her more than any other artist to innovate and develop songs with which she has developed such a strong personal bond.
