With his debut album, the Scottish producer plunges us into a dark universe, full of textures that highlight his techno influences. With this first album, Loud Patterns, Makeness creates tracks that draw on many influences. Kyle Molleson manages to achieve something difficult: tirelessly crafted songs that sound loose and clear. Loud Patterns is clearly indebted to house and techno; there are 4/4 rhythms and a no-frills directness that recalls the Detroit pioneers. Channeling avant-garde experimentalism and an outsider's interest in pop, Kyle embraces the distance between these two poles. Loud Patterns arrives after a series of releases that established his very particular approach, a middle ground between music and dance.
