Delta

Description

She was discovered with Tropiques in 2013, then found again with Grand amour in 2016. Maissiat returns seven years later. Seven years of uninterrupted writing and composition during which the artist also explored side paths like tributaries, culminating in her new album Delta. While driven by the words of others, the desire to write for herself never leaves her. Maissiat records the reality and the passage of time in her journals every day. She begins writing new songs, embracing the time it takes and using it as a material that will shape each of them. It is with all these intersections and this long-term writing that she returns today with Delta, a liberated record for which she is responsible for both the sound and the staging, as the two inseparable poles of the same world. "Delta is the fruit of a necessary wandering and a return to oneself. The album was born from the sound of pianos, the storms of reality, both those of the outside world and those of passion." These new songs were all written and composed in the big city, an emblematic space of chaos that has impacted us all in recent years. It is in rehearsal studios that she finds herself as often as possible, alone in front of upright or grand pianos, each with different temperaments. She entrusts her new songs to them. Some are written in one go, while others have been waiting their turn for a long time. Along the way, Maissiat decides that the beating heart of the upcoming album will be these pianos, the voice, and the choirs for which she writes stripped-down arrangements: always illuminating the piano-voice but without dulling its clarity. She surrounds herself with a close-knit elective family: Yann Arnaud for recording and mixing, Katel to guide her voice, not to mention the subtle inventiveness of Julien Noël on keyboards and Raphaël Séguinier on drums. In the end, Delta is an album woven with infinite variations and beautiful escapes that challenge norms and allow for unconventionality without ever losing direction.
