Singer, pianist, and guitarist, Maëlle Taina was born in Tahiti (from which the artist takes her third given name and stage name, Taina). She grew up between Lyon and San Francisco, then lived in Montreal and Lisbon, before settling in Paris in 2021, where she has since been developing her musical project. After a first solo EP released in July 2021, Maëlle Taina is now accompanied by two guitarists with ambient and indie rock influences. With them, Maëlle Taina creates enchanting folk music, both gentle and heartbreaking. Her airy melodies, sometimes supported by her piano vibrating with melancholy, sometimes by the comforting guitar layers of the trio, invite us to both introspection and escapism. Her first album “As I Am” will be released in May 2025 and candidly, authentically, and gently retraces her tumultuous journey between the different lands where she grew up. Through her deeply sensitive perspective on the world around her, Maëlle Taina evokes the innocence of childhood (“Blue (I’m still a child)”) and broken friendships (“Victoria”), as well as grief (“Avancer” and “A Name’s Just A Name”) and self-acceptance (“As I Am”). This album aims to be profoundly beautiful, subtle, touching, and intoxicating.
