Even if her first album contained a few hits ("Lucky Star", "Holiday"), it was Like A Virgin and the eponymous song that marked the advent of Madonna superstar. A little girl's voice, suggestive lyrics, a sexy and provocative look, "Like A Virgin" would trigger one of the most beautiful hormonal revolutions of the decade. Produced by Chic guitarist Niles Rodgers (who brought in his colleagues, Bernard Edwards on bass and Tony Thompson on drums, for the occasion), Like A Virgin begins with another mega hit, "Material Girl" and its opportunistic declaration of faith. A little overshadowed by these two monsters, the rest of the album is nonetheless excellent, with its festive dance-pop ("Angel", "Over And Over") based on synths (the sound of the 80s) and funky guitars ("Dress You Up").
