Even if her first album contained a few hits ("Lucky Star", "Holiday"), it was Like A Virgin and its title track that marked the arrival of Madonna the superstar. Little-girl voice, suggestive lyrics, sexy and provocative look, "Like A Virgin" was going to trigger one of the decade’s greatest hormonal revolutions. Produced by Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers (who brought in his colleagues for the occasion, Bernard Edwards on bass and Tony Thompson on drums), Like A Virgin opens with another mega hit, "Material Girl" and its ambitious declaration of intent. Slightly overshadowed by these two monsters, the rest of the album is no less excellent, with its festive dance-pop ("Angel", "Over And Over") built on synths (the sound of the 80s) and funky guitars ("Dress You Up").
