A prolific writer, producer, and performer, M. Ward has established himself as one of modern American music’s most unique and versatile voices. Ward’s new album, “Migration Stories,” was recorded at Arcade Fire’s studio in Montreal. This collection of songs is languid and hazy. It blurs the lines between reality and fantasy as it takes into account a world that appears more divided than ever, even as its inhabitants become more inextricably linked day by day. Ward delivers these eleven meditations intimately, tenderly, and gently, but there is a certain darkness that floats just beneath the surface, a lingering feeling that the end might be closer than any of us dare to realize. "It was winter 2018/2019, I flew to Montreal to meet with Tim Kingsbury, Richard Reed Parry, Craig Silvey, and Teddy Impakt at Arcade Fire's studios. It was a beautiful time with amazing people in a city I love. Winter in the beautiful province of Quebec. I had a bunch of demos that were inspired by migration stories I had heard from friends or read (...) I think unconsciously, music, whether it's writing or listening, is a filter for me, helping to transform all the bad news into something new. M. Ward
