« A life full of mistakes »...this is the catchy phrase of « Je tourne, je tourne » seeing the teacher deliver the fruit of her work to the public. The next title, « Comment ça va », highlights her role as a mother and « Quand j'étais p'tit gars » reflects on childhood mischief. Autobiographical, the new album by Lynda Lemay? It is rather a few personal snippets from a kaleidoscopic album rich in seventeen tracks (and twenty-three for the limited edition). The twelfth studio collection of the Quebec artist, « Feutres et Pastels » addresses a wide range of themes as well as styles. The flamenco intro of « Je tourne, je tourne » quickly gives way to a lovely melody with violins and choirs while « L'Architecte », a portrait of a frustrated artist, showcases the piano and « Les Petits et les grands », where everyone gets their share, leads to a fanfare number. The singer who has not lost her sense of humor or her sharp wit turns a blind eye to a deception in the country song « Doux doux le méchant loup » and rages against the facial profiling in « Cagoule ». In the midst of this, the lovely ballad « Reste avec elle » shows her tender side. In a similar vein of lived stories, painted portraits, and more or less existential reflections, « Feutres et Pastels » continues to reveal its wide palette with daily little addictions (the bluesy « Café »), more or less young love stories (« N'importe qui » and « Soupe chaude »), the longing for the other (« Le Petit chalet de bois »), (bad) school memories and other life lessons (« Le Grand tableau vert ») and a curious ode to initiative (« Attendre son pays »). Thus can be summarized the richest and most complete of the singer's works. In the six additional tracks of the expanded edition, there is also a duet with compatriot Roch Voisine, « La Légende Oochigeas », and a live version of « La Femme chauve-souris ».
