Unlike previous albums by Lost Boys, anchored in a specific moment, Pale Bloom has been built slowly, like a creation myth frozen in amber: an ancient and complex origin story, imbued with mystery and metaphors, that seeks neither explanation nor resolution. CLASH describes the album as "a perfect storm of arty goth pop, carried by a slowed-down, dark, and haunting grunge backbone, interspersed with violin lines evoking the strangeness of Venus in Furs."
