Lucrecia Dalt channels the sensory echoes of her childhood in Colombia in her new album ¡Ay !, where the sound and syncopation of tropical music meet an adventurous impulse, lush instrumentation, and metaphysical science fiction meditations in a liminal exclamation of pleasure. Lucrecia Dalt's introspective approach to composition, last seen on her album No era sólida in 2020, refracts through ¡Ay ! into a subconscious spectrum of musical genres she absorbed in her childhood. The sounds of bolero, mambo, salsa, and merengue, rooted in Dalt's environment, awaken on ¡Ay ! and illuminate the contours of the album. The intuitive melodic structures of this music, processed through modular synths, have led Dalt to a mirage of her creative origins and to the album she has always wanted to make. The CD edition includes the lyrics and an essay by Miguel Prado in Spanish and English.
