Lucid Express are five young dreamers creating a stunning blend of shoegaze and indie pop among the skyscrapers, mountains, and crowded back alleys of Hong Kong. The name itself is a modest mission statement of the band’s intent: lucid in the poetic sense of something brilliant and radiant. The band formed as teenagers in the winter of 2014, in the turbulent weeks leading up to The Umbrella Revolution. Vocalist and keyboardist Kim recounts that during this time, they needed to hold on to something more beautiful than before, like friendships, their band, creation itself. Listening to their wonderful, dreamy compositions, it’s no surprise that these songs are marked by the mood of the time of their creation. Indeed, with all band members working late into the night, rehearsal and recording sessions took place between midnight and 4 am. Then, they would crash together on the studio floor before returning to work early in the morning. The debut album Lucid Express was given an extra sparkle thanks to the creative mixing of Max Bloom (Yuck), which takes the listener on a journey through the band’s color-infused sounds.
