Whether she sings, conducts, dances, or acts on stage, Canadian soprano Barbara Hannigan captivates. Alpha is proud to enter her world today and to present her very first album as a singer and conductor, released in 2017: with Ludwig, an orchestra based in Amsterdam, of which she is an associate artist, Barbara Hannigan has created a program dedicated to Berg's Lulu Suite and Gershwin's Girl Crazy in a newly arranged Suite by multi-award-winning American composer Bill Elliott. In addition to these two pieces, she has recorded the spectacular Sequenza III by Berio for solo voice. An exceptional soprano and a great interpreter of 20th and 21st-century music, a total artist who makes a sensation on stages around the world, Barbara Hannigan has been enriching her palette for several years by dedicating herself to conducting. This album, which serves as a musical portrait of the artist, is complemented by a DVD featuring a film directed by Mathieu Amalric during rehearsals and the recording. It offers a deep dive into the heart of the orchestra and a very personal look at the exchanges between the musicians and the conductor.
