"Italian Songbook", the new album by Luca Aquino, is very personal and has a vast repertoire: from film music by Ennio Morricone and Nino Rota, to the great songs of cantautori (Italian singer-songwriters) like Luigi Tenco, Lucio Dalla, and Fabrizio De André. Aquino recalls largely forgotten pioneers of Italian music such as Mario Pasquale Costa and Gorni Kramer. On this album, he received exceptional support from pianist Danilo Rea. And with accordionist Natalino Marchetti, he created profoundly sincere music. The sound unfolds luxuriously when Aquino's group is combined with the Orchestra Filarmonica di Benevento. In trio, they are soft, gentle, and intimate, but they can also bring the opulence of an orchestra, and it is this dichotomy that gives charm to "Italian Songbook". Every note of this album testifies to Aquino's devotion to his musical heritage.
