Double Negative

Description

Low returns with a new dark, abrasive, and contemplative album. For "Double Negative," Low once again enlisted B.J. Burton, the producer who has worked with Bon Iver, Lizzo, and Francis and the Lights. The band returned to Justin Vernon's studio in Eau Claire, Wisconsin (where the band had previously recorded "Ones and Sixies" in 2015). Alan Sparhawk, Mimi Parker, and bassist Steve Garrington knew where they wanted to go with Burton and his sonic palette: according to Sparhawk, they wanted to see what a "hip-hop guy" could do with their music. Instead of writing and rehearsing the album at home in Duluth, Minnesota, they wanted to arrive in Eau Claire with drafts and ideas to rework in the studio with Burton. The band and producer ended up collaborating to write this album, assembling the pieces until everything was perfect. The album cover for "Double Negative" was created by the English artist Peter Liversidge, their long-time collaborator. FOR THOSE WHO LIKE Wire, The Cure, Mazzy Star, Acetone
