The composer Louis Andriessen celebrated his 80th birthday in 2019, an anniversary that coincided with the centenary of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. On this occasion, the orchestra conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen premiered a new work by the composer, titled 'The Only One'. Andriessen was inspired by a collection of poems by the contemporary Flemish poet Delphine Lecompte, as well as by his meeting with the young Amsterdam singer Nora Fischer, who oscillates between jazz, pop, and classical. 'The Only One' is written especially for this voice of rare versatility.
