Forged by the fire of her inner turmoil, Loraine James was struggling with a lack of confidence and a desire for change when she embarked on "Detached From The Rest Of You." A helping hand came in the form of producing the EP "Clandestine" in 2025 with singer Anysia Kym, which allowed her to explore a more "pop" universe and provided her with the tools and insight needed to adapt her compositions to more conventional structures; a shift from club-oriented sounds and winding instrumentals to more precise musical forms. Loraine's production is stripped down to the essentials: soundscapes made of clicks and glitches inspired by Takamasa Aoki, Ryoji Ikeda, and the Clicks & Cuts school of the early 2000s. Here, often with only a few scattered keyboard chords as a splash of color, she uses the space around the sounds and voices to draw the listener into a concise and direct album, the most accomplished she has ever created. Among the guest artists are singer Sydney Spann on "In a Rut," Alan Sparhawk (Low) on the melancholic anthem "Peak Again," Miho Hatori (Cibo Matto) on "Flatline," Anysia Kim on "Score," and Tirzah on "Habits and Patterns." Finally, her former partner, rapper Le3 bLACK, makes a strong return with the jazz-inflected track "Ending Us All," accompanied by Fyn Dobson on drums.
