How Will I Live Without A Body? is the new album by the art-rock group Loma, featuring Jonathan Meiburg from Shearwater and Emily Cross from Cross Record. Many of its songs have a sense of restless movement; faceless characters drift through encounters and separations, intertwining and pulling apart. Although the record nods to the separate lives of the trio—German percussion ensembles, a pair of Texas owls, and the waves of Chesil Beach make appearances—the heart of Loma's sound remains intact: earthy, organic, and deeply human, anchored by Emily Cross's fresh and clear voice. Loma's previous album, Don't Shy Away, was galvanized by the encouragement and unexpected contributions of Brian Eno. This time, they found inspiration from another hero, Laurie Anderson, who offered them the opportunity to work with an AI trained on her entire body of work.
