On her new album Two Whole Summers, Half A Life, Lisa Bassenge reunites with her trusted musicians, pianist Jacob Karlzon and double bassist Andreas Lang, with whom she has collaborated on numerous projects. True to her approach, the repertoire elegantly blends pop, songwriting and jazz, freely moving from Elliott Smith to Duran Duran, from Billie Holiday to Björk, with the expressiveness of the songs as the guiding thread. The album includes reinterpretations of Hank Williams, Madonna (Frozen) and The Cure (Catch), as well as two original compositions - the title track, a tribute to friendship and youth, and the neo-folk ballad I'm Getting Old - which fully affirm Bassenge's artistic signature. For over twenty years, the Berlin-based singer has embodied a singular stylistic openness, here carried by a subtle jazz aesthetic and the atmospheric depth of Karlzon and Lang's Scandinavian playing.
