Ein Deutsches Barockrequiem

Description

For his Deutsches Requiem, Johannes Brahms drew texts from various sources of the Holy Scriptures. Passionate about polyphony – as evidenced by his own choral music – he was inspired by models from the great Lutheran tradition of the late Renaissance and the Baroque. For many years, it has been with the same passion that we, along with Vox Luminis, have explored this fantastic ancient repertoire while holding an unwavering admiration for Brahms' masterpiece; it is ultimately no surprise that we found some texts chosen by the Romantic master had already been sublimated by his illustrious predecessors. We were left to traverse this path in the scores, a series of meditations on death, and to create this other Deutsches Requiem animated here by the emotions of the Lutheran Baroque.
