Requiem

Description

Crowned with numerous awards, including several Gramophone Awards, the vocal ensemble Vox Luminis, founded by Lionel Meunier in 2004, has now become a reference in the interpretation of major works of German Baroque. While their always faithful and vibrant approach to master composers like Bach, Buxtehude, and Scheidt has established their reputation, this new recording features a flagship piece by composer Heinrich Biber, previously absent from their discography: his Requiem in F minor for 14 voices, composed around 1692. The program is completed by two pieces by Christoph Bernhard (Herr, nun lässest du deinen Diener in Friede fahren and Tribularer si nescirem misericordias tuas), two pieces by Johann Joseph Fux, as well as the Sonata a 6 in A minor by Johann Michael Nicolai. This recording marks the beginning of a collaboration between Vox Luminis and an internationally renowned ensemble: the Freiburger Barockorchester, here in its Consort version.
