Due North

Description

Liam Kazar crafts joyous rock songs so irresistible they seem timeless. Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy champions his cause, loving everything about Liam—his voice, his songs, his instrumental prowess, his smile, his cooking... everything! Making something brand new sound like a cherished memory is a magic trick few can pull off. On 'Due North', Liam Kazar's debut album, released via Woodist and Mare Records, the ten tracks are so full of charm, wit, and heart that it can't be a mere sleight of hand. The Kansas City-based, Chicago-raised musician and acclaimed chef, founder of the Armenian pop-up restaurant Ispahan, describes creating 'Due North' as a personal revelation; the more he wrote, the more his songs revealed the kind of artist he had always wanted to be. A dream bandmate for artists like Jeff Tweedy, Steve Gunn, Daniel Johnston, and more, making his own songs presented a chance to find his own voice. But figuring out how to stand out was a rewarding challenge. Kevin Morby, co-founder of Mare Records, admits that these songs completely blew him away the first time he heard them: they sounded like David Bowie meets The Band. Alongside drummer Spencer Tweedy and bassist Lane Beckstrom, Liam enlisted keyboardist Dave Curtin (Woongi), co-producer James Elkington on pedal steel, and Ohmme and Andrew Sa for backing vocals. 'Due North' was mixed by Sam Evian at his Flying Cloud Recordings Studio in upstate New York.
