Brooklyn-based artists Leslie Graves and Toby Goodshank join their creative forces on the album Between Worlds (BB*ISLAND). Toby Goodshank (The Moldy Peaches alongside Kimya Dawson, The Pizza Underground), a figure of the original New York Antifolk scene, is known for his acrobatic and precise vocals laid over subtle acoustic guitar. His songs have been described as "a cheeky nod to domesticated nonsense" (Myles Manley). Leslie Graves (GOLD, Endless Arrows) is a singer-songwriter exploring the sub-genres of folk in evocative and intriguing directions, even evoking "what Donna Hayward might dance to at the Bang Bang Bar" (Ronan Conroy, review of the album Hidden In The Days). Her voice has been labeled "darkwave-folk," and compared to Lana Del Rey, Cat Power, Mazzy Star, or Julee Cruise. At the heart of their music: acoustic guitar and vocal harmonies, with a slightly psychedelic folk-rock hue, sometimes close to dream pop. Their influences are numerous: Sybil Baer, Judee Sill, REM, Linda Perhacs, Jessica Pratt... but the universe created by Toby and Leslie is unique: warm, enchanting, like a glow from a space between two worlds. The album is subtly enriched by the instrumental talents of Jake Nicoll (The Burning Hell), who recorded and shaped the tracks with care. He is supported by Ariel Sharrat (also from The Burning Hell), who contributes on saxophone, bass, or other parts of the album.
