The Sunny Side is the result of years of writing and recording, the culmination of half a decade of lineup changes; now, Leisure Hour has reached its final form: bassist/vocalist Dudas, guitarist/vocalist Neal, and drummer/vocalist Gordon. The Sunny Side, according to the band, speaks of love, grief, and the struggle to manage mental health as a middle-class individual, and it may have been a case where life imitated art. As true DIY artists, they decided to organize as many music festivals as possible to raise enough money to bring these songs to life. The eleven songs that make up the album are built on wavering hopes and the anticipation of disappointment, but they come with unwavering resilience and a hard-earned appreciation for those small victories.
