English artist Laura Marling is back with her eighth studio album, Patterns in Repeat. After more than 15 years of a career as one of the most acclaimed, prolific, and respected songwriters of her generation (with several Grammy nominations, Mercury Prize nominations, a Brit Award, and many others), Laura Marling seeks to occupy different spaces in Patterns in Repeat and continues to surprise. Written after the birth of her daughter in 2023 (and recorded with her in the room next to Laura), Patterns in Repeat is a reflection of Laura on her own experience as a mother. The sounds are rooted in a specific and revealing period of her life, but they delve more broadly into her thoughts on the ideas and behaviors we pass down from generation to generation within the family. Almost entirely acoustic, with minimal overdubbing and elegantly placed orchestral accents, this is the most focused, subtle, and sharpest album of Laura's career.
