Rooted in the early 80s punk and hardcore scene of Detroit's Cass Corridor, John Brannon (Negative Approach) and Larissa Strickland (L-Seven), joined by the rhythm duo Kevin Strickland and Jim Kimball — later replaced by Ron Sakowski (Necros) on bass and Todd Swalla (Necros) on drums — propelled the Laughing Hyenas to another level. Inspired by The Birthday Party, the Funhouse-era Stooges, as well as blues and jazz, they delivered a fierce and sulfurous sonic maelstrom. The hypnotic, sinister bass riffs and tribal swing formed the perfect foundation for Larissa's sharp, searing guitars — she had only picked up the guitar a few months before the band formed — and for John Brannon's diabolical howl. A raw, intense, and visceral experience that left a lasting mark on Detroit punk.
