Emerging from prestigious ensembles (Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, NDR Hamburg, SWR Stuttgart), the young oboist Cécile Moinet has recently begun a solo career. For this program featuring Bach's three concertos and Marcello's, she has joined L'Arte del Mondo. Under the expert baton of Ehrhart, a well-rehearsed team in the baroque repertoire pays attention to dynamics (lively), timbres (shimmering), and overall balance. The attacks are impeccable, and the phrasing is velvety. At the center of this superb setting, Cécile Moinet also showcases wonders of phrasing (despite an instrument curiously overexposed by the recording) and some delicate ornamentations of her own. The lively and virtuosic movements suit her better than the slow ones, where sometimes the soul of the music struggles to manifest. Bright and light, Marcello's Concerto passes like snow in the sun. As a bonus: two Sinfonias from cantatas that, while pleasant to listen to, add nothing to the merit of this remarkable oboist or to the success of her disc. (Jérôme Angouillant)
