« I met Claude McKay through 'Banjo', this vibrant novel that crosses the port of Marseille a hundred years ago. While reading it, the city changed its face: as I left my home, I felt like I was walking through its pages, among sailors, mixed languages, and lives in motion. One evening, sitting at the back of a bar in La Plaine, I ordered two glasses. I invited Claude to join me. In this imaginary meeting, I took note of our exchanges. This is how this posthumous correspondence was born — an attempt to make heard, even today, the voice of a poet who has never stopped speaking to us. » p>

Claude McKay, born on September 15, 1889 or 1890 and died on May 22, 1948, was a Jamaican poet and novelist, naturalized American at the end of his life. He was part of the literary movement of the Harlem Renaissance.
