Wewantsounds is pleased to present for the first time on vinyl the soundtrack of Man On A Swing composed in 1974 by Lalo Schifrin for Frank Perry's film. Blending jazz, bossa, groove, and atmospheric tracks, the soundtrack recorded in Los Angeles with Emil Richards, Bud Shank, and Howard Roberts from the Wrecking Crew is one of the composer's most inspired works. In 1974, the year Lalo Schifrin composed the soundtrack for Frank Perry's film, Man on a Swing, starring Cliff Robertson and Joel Gray, he was one of the most acclaimed composers in Hollywood, having worked on iconic films such as Bullitt and Dirty Harry. Frank Perry, for his part, had made a splash with the film The Swimmer in 1968 starring Burt Lancaster and followed it up with cult films Last Summer (1969), Diary of a Married Woman (1970), and Play It as It Lays (1972). Breaking away from psychological dramas, the director decided to shoot a thriller about a police inspector investigating a murder with the help of a disturbing psychic. Lalo Schifrin's music was recorded in Los Angeles with the musicians from the Wrecking Crew: Emil Richards (percussion), Howard Roberts (guitar), Bud Shank (flute), and of course Schifrin on piano. Man on a Swing represents the quintessence of Schifrin's style in the 70s. The soundtrack unfolds like a long suite alternating bossa nova, jazz, and groove tracks with superb suspenseful soundscapes such as "Rosehaven Hotel." Starting from scratch with the original tapes, the label found several unreleased tracks as bonuses, including the title "Radio Source Rhythm." This is a version without guitar or organ, revealing a superb funk breakbeat in the vein of Dirty Harry and Enter the Dragon that will delight all diggers and fans of Lalo Schifrin. The soundtrack has been remastered by Colorsound Studio and includes liner notes by Jeremy Allen and artwork by designer Eric Adrian Lee.
