After finishing the filming of Joker: Folie à Deux, Lady Gaga realized she wasn't quite ready to leave the character she had meticulously explored, created, and inhabited for so long. She began to imagine what an album from the perspective of "Harley Quinn," aka "Lee," would sound like, finding the music in the chaos. Harlequin is therefore the album Lady Gaga had to make. A farewell to the character, an ending for "Lee." In this sense, Harlequin can be seen as a companion to Joker: Folie à Deux, but it is also more than that—it is the complete realization of an artistic vision by Lady Gaga. These 13 songs blend jazz, surf-punk, blues, and classics into an album that feels both familiar and entirely new.
