Play With Fire is the second album by L.A. Witch on Suicide Squeeze Records. The band's self-titled debut album was released in 2017 in a rather natural way, with songs composed over the years. The new popularity of the band and regular touring have infused new energy into the group for this new album. Between scheduled concerts, studio availability, and the record release timeline, L.A. Witch found themselves with only two months to compose most of the album. As bassist Irita Pay points out, having restrictions forces one to think outside the box, and this constraint brings unexpected and abundant creativity. Play With Fire is more direct than its predecessor. Play With Fire is a bold journey that retains the mystique of L.A. Witch's siren song, nostalgic spirit, and a certain contemporary freshness. Listening to the record feels like traversing the history of American rock, from its pollination with blues and country, through the psychedelia of the '60s and the punk wave of the '70s, to its landing on the New York art rock of the '80s. Despite the stylistic range of the album, there is a unifying timbre across the nine tracks, as if the trio of young musicians were connected by old souls drawing from the sounds of their previous youth. Pressed on 180g gold vinyl.
