Description

To discover La Sécurité is to dive into Montreal's nightlife, amidst neon lights, sweat, and pulsating dance beats. The art-punk-pop collective blends catchy rhythms, abrasive textures, and minimalist melodies, crafted for the dancefloor as much as for insomnia. Driven by a Riot Grrrl spirit, their music celebrates empowerment, friendship, and radical kindness. At the crossroads of punk, new wave, and krautrock, La Sécurité shakes up conventions and unfolds a resolutely DIY universe, as vibrant to listen to as it is to experience. After a critically acclaimed debut album, Stay Safe!, released in 2023, La Sécurité returns with Bingo!. La Sécurité (Montreal) is a collective whose art punk is equally comprised of jerky rhythms, off-kilter arrangements, and catchy minimalist melodies, all filtered through insomnia, a result of excessive exposure to city neon. The music speaks of living dangerously, perfectly suited for blasting at full volume on dancefloors, while the lyrics share the ethos of the Riot Grrrl movement and celebrate the empowerment of women, friends (naughty and nice), and kindness. After the release of their debut album Stay Safe! (June 16, 2023), shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize 2024, as well as its joyful descendant Stay Safe! REMIXED (March 8, 2024), with the Mothland label, the quintet offered singles "Detour" (October 22, 2024) and "Ketchup" (January 28, 2025), setting the stage for a new wave of DIY sonic gems, this time in collaboration with the British label founded by Simon Raymonde: Bella Union. Thus, this eclectic group continues to flirt with the fringes of punk, new wave, and krautrock, mischievously flouting stylistic codes at every opportunity, as evidenced by their second album, Bingo!, scheduled for release on June 12, 2026 via Bella Union (worldwide) and Mothland (Canada and USA). Every day, you can see La Sécurité wearing thrift store finds while performing their set in a legendary underground venue, on the roof of a tanning salon for a niche festival, or live on Riley & Coe (BBC 6). From start to finish, the Quebecois band engages in a symbiosis of dishevelled music, veiled poetry, and improvised dance, with movement as the main creative engine. Since their formation in spring 2022, they have been invited to perform at notable events such as SXSW (among the best of SXSW 2025 according to NPR), End of the Road, The Great Escape, Reeperbahn, and the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.
