For the 400th anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, La Ritirata and Josetxu Obregón created a program of arias from two operas by Antonio Caldara: "Don Chisciotte in Corte della duchessa" and "Sancio Panza Governatore dell'isola Barattaria". Caldara was not only a cellist but also had strong ties to Spain, which explains, among other things, the attraction that Josetxu Obregón feels for this Italian composer in the service of the Viennese court from 1716 until his death in 1736. In this CD, the admirable arias, numbering about a dozen, are accompanied by a variety of lively dances composed for the operas mentioned by Nicholas Matteis, a contemporary of Caldara.
