This unique quartet, made up of singer Jelena Kuljic, the two guitarists Kalle Kalima and Frank Möbus, and drummer/percussionist Christian Lillinger, always finds a way to combine a powerful attitude, uncompromising political commitment, and sometimes even a burning rage, with astonishingly high and consistent levels of musicianship, musical interest, and a kind of creativity capable of taking the band in many different directions. Indeed, this is a group of superb musicians who have honed their craft together on stage for almost a decade. And although all four — that’s an understatement! — have multiple commitments in all kinds of other activities, KUU! is something they want to devote themselves to and spend their time on, and something they all visibly enjoy: “Basically, we just want to play,” says Kalle Kalima, “the good gigs with this band are an immense joy.”
