Description

Even though his parents were figures of Swinging London, Crispian Mills was born in 1973: so we are beyond the second generation of psychedelia. And yet, the only album by his band, released in late 1996, revisits the genre from top to bottom. Sonically, of course, filled as it is with Hendrix-style wah-wah, Beatles-like sitars, Steve Winwood-style organs and other obligatory psychedelic clichés, but also, it seems, aesthetically and philosophically: Hindu drawings, lyrics sung in Sanskrit, it all goes there, with disarming ingenuousness. Add an undeniable knack for crafting a melody and handling a guitar and you get a number one in England.
