Music For Films Edited By Moths - Vinyle Blanc Translucide
Description
Legendary independent audio artist, Kramer blurs the paths he has followed throughout his life, from spontaneous composition (in the late 70s with John Zorn) to experimental rock (with Bongwater and other bands in the 80s), to his recent explorations of the subtleties of ambient-folk songwriting (with his latest solo album, And The Wind Blew It All Away), he continues to explore the possibilities of transforming natural soundscapes into intoxicating music. Sound and language – not just melody and ambient textures – have been his raw materials for decades. He juggles these elements with more skill than ever in his latest ambient work. In the ten compositions that make up this new album, sometimes somber yet mysteriously invigorating and generous in their scope, Kramer sees films where there are none, and composes the ambient soundtracks that accompany them in a state of interrupted grace. Words, texts, complete scripts, character arcs, shooting scripts, and storyboards swirl in his mind as he translates his images into sound, and the results evoke a world in which moths, drawn to the bright and flickering lights of cinema and the low and rumbling lights of dreams, in Kramer’s own words, might never die. Drawn by the light of a multitude of influences, we hear echoes of the feverishly frozen dreams of composers Morton Feldman, Terry Riley, Brian Eno, and Arvo Pärt, blending into the surreal cinema of David Lynch and the Brothers Quay, all these parts converging to evoke a time and place that do not exist outside the listener's mind's eye. Composing these works for films that do not exist, Kramer collaborates on the video art for this project with Dutch multimedia artist Tinca Veerman, who creates a unique and deeply sensual visual world for Kramer's visceral imagination.
