Khruangbin and Leon Bridges, two artists boldly leading Texan music into the future, have just written the second chapter of their collaboration, together expanding the sonic possibilities offered by their homeland. Soul singer and songwriter Leon Bridges from Fort Worth and the avant-garde psychedelic trio Khruangbin from Houston have joined forces with the EP Texas Moon, which follows their first collaborative work, the acclaimed Texas Sun released in 2020. These five new tracks are clearly a continuation of the first EP, but they also carry an identity of their own—Leon Bridges considers them to be more introspective, while Laura Lee, the bassist of Khruangbin, lends them a more nocturnal character. When Texas Sun was released, the result was described as intoxicating, and the harmonious blend of their talents was greatly noted. Here we are at the next stage with a new set of songs that address themes of love, faith, and death while exploring new dimensions of creative and hypnotic grooves. The musical directions of both parties have clearly been influenced by the time spent working together. Thus, Khruangbin's latest album, Mordechai, has showcased the vocals like never before. As for Leon Bridges, in addition to his album Gold Diggers Sound, which goes well beyond labels, he has sought to push his boundaries by collaborating with other artists like John Mayer, Lucky Daye, and Jazmine Sullivan. Texas Moon is a rare and authentic work that brings together some of the most respected and innovative artists of their generation: it is not Khruangbin, it is not Leon Bridges, it is this new world they have created together.
