In 1956, Kenny Drew signed the album "Kenny Drew Trio" for the Riverside label.
The swinging "Blues for Nica," a tribute to the "Jazz Baroness" Pannonica de Koenigswarter, is the centerpiece of an LP where the collaborator of Charlie Parker, Lester Young, and Dexter Gordon enlisted Paul Chambers (bass) and Philly Joe Jones (drums), the trio that would embark the following year on John Coltrane's legendary Blue Train. Reissued in the audiophile Original Jazz Classics Series.
