On March 7, 1958, John Coltrane and Kenny Burrell recorded five tracks at the Van Gelder Studio for the New Jazz label, accompanied by Tommy Flanagan (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), and Jimmy Cobb on drums. Five years later, the public discovered Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane, the summit meeting of the saxophone titan and the jazz guitar legend, whose spectacular interactions illuminated the standards "Why Was I Born" and the bop tour de force "Big Paul," composed by Tommy Flanagan.
