Don't Trust Mirrors

Description

'Don't Trust Mirrors' concludes one of the most significant periods in Kelly Moran's musical life. In 2019, her career was marked by numerous tours and festivals: she would wake up early to play her sets and stay late to dance to techno. Being outdoors and soaking in that environment created a new connection between her and the music she was composing, inspiring her to work on a more rhythmic follow-up to her first album 'Ultraviolet', released in 2018 on Warp Records. However, an unexpected personal change in her life, along with the interruption of her tour during the pandemic, altered the course of the project. Her self-perception changed, both physically and emotionally, as did her journey, leading to a new creative process. This resulted in 'Moves in the Field', released in 2024, which the New York Times described as "a collection of 10 piano pieces that are both tender and solid, as enchanting as a waterfall or as delicate as steam." Distancing itself from her last album, 'Don't Trust Mirrors' marks a decisive return to a project that had been put on hold and to self-realization, highlighting the experience of observing oneself through distortion, reflection, and the slow work of self-reconstruction. The album, featuring Bibio, a fellow artist from Warp Records, includes 10 tracks with beautiful textural refrains, reflecting light, sharp contours, and the entire spectrum of true embodiment.
