Kayhan Kalhor and Toumani Diabaté come together for a unique musical journey! Kayhan Kalhor and Toumani Diabaté are both well-known soloists, but this duo recording has something special, taking us on an improvised musical journey to new landscapes. "It's as if this music was already there, waiting for us," says Toumani. "And it's as if we both knew each other before, in another life." Kayhan Kalhor, originally from Iran, is the main player of the kamancheh, the Persian spike fiddle. He has collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, the Kronos Quartet, Shujaat Khan, Erdal Erzincan, the Rembrandt Trio, and many others. Toumani Diabaté, originally from Mali, is also the main player of the kora from West Africa, a 21-string harp-lute, a sublime creation made of gourd, cowhide, and fishing line. He has won three Grammys and has recorded with Ballaké Sissoko, Taj Mahal, Ali Farka Touré, Bjork, and the London Symphony Orchestra. The duo initially performed together, with minimal preparation, at the Morgenland festival in Osnabrück, Germany, in September 2016. A short European tour followed, and this album was then recorded in Paris after the final concert in Brussels.
