Kavia Special means an average age of 25, a debut album acclaimed by the specialized press in 2013, an EP in the summer of 2015, and an avalanche of live performances. Since their first album, the quartet from Rennes has gained momentum: 4 European tours and a remarkable performance at the Transmusicales de Rennes have allowed the band to definitively establish themselves as one of the leading acts in an increasingly dynamic French garage rock scene. Like the current American garage scene (Ty Segall, Fidlar, Black Lips...), the Rennes-based band develops an impressive energy on stage and successfully combines the richness of their influences with songwriting and production firmly rooted in the present. Very judiciously illustrated by the Belgian artist Elzo Durt, this new album, soberly titled #2 and recorded at Cocoon studio in Rennes, marks a significant step forward by embracing a richer and more controlled production. The band reveals more varied influences, stretching from unbridled pop to nervous garage rock and dark, brutal psychedelia. Fuzz tidal waves, surf guitars, reverb-soaked ballads, and danceable mid-tempos.
