Description

American experimental electronic musician Katie Gately uses a plethora of computer programs to transform her voice into dense and sometimes unsettling sonic constructions. Her unpredictable compositions range from industrial to playful and abstract pop songs, with a sense of absurd humor and an ear for rhythm and melody. Raised in Brooklyn and currently based in Los Angeles, Katie Gately earned a degree in film production and sound design from the University of Southern California, but never received any formal musical training. In 2012, she began uploading her compositions to Soundcloud and by the end of 2013, she had released a self-titled 12" EP on Public Information and a cassette EP on Blue Tapes. In 2015, Katie Gately appears on Nosaj Thing's LP Fated and remixes Bjork's song "Family". Her first two EPs were celebrated by NPR, Fact, Quietus, Stereogum, Drowned in Sound, Pop Matters, and many others.
