Monteverdi: Memories

Description

«Monteverdi: Memories» presents original compositions by Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), one of the most famous composers of the Renaissance and the early Baroque period. In the 1600s, no other composer had such a multiple and lasting influence on the history of composition as he did. The richness of his musical ideas, such as the ostinato bass or the lament bass with its four descending notes, is a source of inspiration to this day. The new album by Capella de la Torre «Monteverdi: Memories» reflects Monteverdi's artistic evolution in his works. Pieces for large ensemble like «Beatus Vir» and «Confitebor tibi Domine» are heard in combination with smaller ensembles like «Zefiro Torna», «Ballo de ingrate» and «Tempo la Cetra». Throughout the program, we find the characteristic "walking bass" figures of the composer that have resurfaced in 20th-century jazz, blues, and pop. Capella de la Torre thus explores the lifelong work of Monteverdi, with its different origins and styles.
