And at the time, this was true: the Kenyan polymath’s sound on their debut album The Coming of Gaze was fiercely and resolutely focused on dizzying pop, old-school hip-hop vibes, clear sounds, sweetness, bounce, positivity and JOY.But today, the lines are not so clear. On their new material for Monkeytown, a bit more rawness, strangeness and rave energy seem to have seeped in. This is not just the effect of being surrounded by Nyege Nyege peers, but it is partly the experience of playing at eclectic festivals all over the world.Anyone who has seen a Kabeaushé show will instantly understand this.
